HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) received Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia His Excellency Sayed Jalal Sayed Karim Al Sayed. The meeting was attended by Ms. Hassna Alturki, Senior Executive Manager of International Relations, Mr. Fahad Bin Nafel, Senior Executive Assistant to HRH and Mr. Ahmed Al Tobaishi, Executive Assistant to HRH.
During the meeting, Prince Alwaleed and the Ambassador discussed a number of social and economic issues. Moreover, the ambassador extended an invitation to HRH to visit the country. HRH promised to visit #Afghanistan in the near future.
In 2008, Prince Alwaleed visited the city of Kabul in response to an official invitation from the country’s President.
Prince Alwaleed has supported Afghanistan through continuous humanitarian contributions through Alwaleed Philanthropies (AP) that is chaired by HRH. AP helped Afghani communities in 2007 by granting donations to Turquoise Mountain, an organization launched by Prince Charles to support the Higher Education Institute for Afghan Art and Architecture. The grant covered the operational training costs of carpentry, ceramic, and calligraphy workshops. Furthermore, the program helped the restoration of Murad Khan and supported vocational training programs which led to making products that are later sold in an international market.
In 2001, Alwaleed Philanthropies provided aid to Afghan refugees in response to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Campaign.
In 2006 and in 2009 as well, Alwaleed Philanthropies continued to support The Susie Reizod Foundation’s project by providing children with shoes in areas in Asia. After the catastrophe in Afghanistan, 15,000 children were provided with new shoes and aid. These countries were chosen due to massive devastation resulting from the natural and man-made disasters. Children residing in these areas had witnessed family death, dislocation, disease, as well as dire poverty, and many of them were refugees.
In 2012, Alwaleed Philanthropies renewed its commitment to the Turquoise Mountain Trust Fund for youth training and heritage preservation, and again in 2015 for a period of four years.
In 2013, Alwaleed Philanthropies supported the Fund for Global Health & Development, Polio Eradication, at the National Philanthropic Trust in Asian countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan.
