Princess Ameerah Visits Alwaleed School in Ghana, Alwaleed Foundation Donated $600,000 to Noghuchi Institute

HH Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, Vice Chairwoman of Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation* that is chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud was on a recent visit #Ghana. The Princess was accompanied by a delegation from Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation. During the Princess’s trip she visited the Alwaleed School and was given a tour of the school by HE Mrs. Juliana Azuma Mensah, Minister for Women and children’s Affairs. Furthermore, during the Princess’s trip she also visited the Noghuchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and was given a tour by Minister Mensah. Alwaleed Foundation had donated $600,000 Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research towards a clinical research facility for AIDS, malaria, and malnutrition. 


The Alwaleed Foundation encourages and supports organizations, studies, and academic centers focusing on education, health and alleviating poverty globally. Other areas that are supported by the Foundation are various awareness and education projects tie-ups with women’s centers, handicraft sector, training and employment.

In 2003, Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation had supported Ghana on a number of humanitarian projects that include: a donation of $100,000 to support the Fund for Early Child Center and $100,000 to support the Ghana Otumfuos Education Fund, $300,000 towards children’s preschool programs. Prince Alwaleed had also sponsored the pilgrimage of 150 Ghanaian citizens which was estimated to cost over one million Saudi Riyals. In addition, the Foundation donated $250,000 to the Natural Disaster Relief Fund to provide relief from the destruction caused by the floods in 2007.

Moreover, during the trip HRH and HH were warmly received by HE John Atta-Mills, the President of the Republic of Ghana at the Castle Osu. HRH and HH were accompanied by a delegation from KHC, Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation and HRH’s Private office.  


The President and Prince Alwaleed discussed general economic and social issues in addition to focusing on humanitarian issues. The President commended Prince Alwaleed on his global investments and Alwaleed Foundation on their efforts and support to Ghana. Moreover, during the trip, HRH was awarded the Key to the City of Accra by Mr. Alfred Vanderpuye, the Mayor of the City of Accra at the Greater Accra Metropolitan Accra Assembly. Furthermore, Prince Alwaleed toured and inspected his investments through KHC in Ghana and inspected his humanitarian projects through Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation.

In 2006, His Highness was awarded the highest honorary medal in the country, "Companion of the Order of the Volta" during an official ceremony of investiture attended by prominent state dignitaries. In addition, in 2004 HRH was conferred the Honorary Doctorate from the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, Ghana for His Highness’s global investments and humanitarian efforts. Also in 2003 the Prince was awarded, by the King of Ashanti tribe with the diploma, with the rank of "Citizen of Honor of the Kingdom of Ashanti".

HRH’s philanthropic grants and donations over 65 countries ranging from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe; from Gaza to The Gambia, totaling more than $2.4 billion over the last 30 years. HRH has established three Foundations to handle his philanthropic activities across the globe under the slogan “Commitment Without Boundaries”: Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation in Saudi Arabia Alwaleed Bin Talal Humanitarian Foundation in Lebanon, and Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation-Global registered in Lebanon. His foundations work locally, regionally and internationally to combat poverty, strengthen interfaith and intercultural dialogue and empower women and youth.
