HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), visited the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Tuesday 22nd April 2014, during the visit Prince Alwaleed was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in International Business from the University of Jordan in the presence of HM Queen Rania.
The degree was awarded to Prince Alwaleed by Prof. Ekhleif Tarawneh, President of the University of Jordan. HRH was honored for his significant influence on economic and social development, in addition to his support for cultural studies. This is the 24th honorary degree that HRH has thus far received.
Prince Alwaleed’s speech during the ceremony included: “In granting me an honorary doctorate degree in international business, the university is providing ample proof of the harmony between its mission and the message that sets our foundations. Both aim at reasserting their affirmation of the massage of hope and faith in development, reconstruction and excellence, above all else”.
The ceremony was attended by a delegation from KHC that included Ms. Heba Fatani, Senior Executive Manager, Corporate Communications Department and Mr. Naief Alzuhair, Website and Social Media Manager, Corporate Communications.
From HRH’s private office, the attendees were Dr. Nahla Nasser Alanbar, Private Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman, Ms. Hassna Alturki, Department Head Travel & External Affairs, Mr. Hassan Mukhtar, Advisor to HRH the chairman, and Mr. Fahad Bin Saad Bin Nafel, Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman and Mr. Mohammed Alfaraj, Assistant Manager Travel & External Affairs.
The delegation from Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation were Mrs. Abir Kaki, Secretary General and Dr. Alsheikh Ali Nashwan, Religious Advisor to HRH the chairman, Ms. Nauf AlRawaf Executive Manager of International Projects Department and Princess Lamia Bint Majed Bin Saud Alsaud, Executive Manager, Media and PR.
Also during the visit, Prince Alwaleed met with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan and Her Majesty Queen Rania at Al Husseiniya Palace.
In 2008, Prince Alwaleed held a meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan at the George V Hotel in Paris. In 1997, HRH was awarded “The Star Decoration of the First Order” by the late King Hussein Bin Talal of Jordan, in recognition of the Prince’s regional and international investments and philanthropy.
Prince Alwaleed’s investments in Jordan through Kingdom Holding Company, in the hospitality sector, include the Four Seasons Amman hotel, four hotels managed by Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts; two in Petra, one in Aqaba and another in the Dead Sea, and investment in the banking sector through Citigroup.
