Prince Alwaleed Receives Ghanaian Ambassador to Discuss Economic Issues

HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) received at his office in Riyadh HE. Mr. Alhaji Abdullah Salifu, Ghanaian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Nahla Alanbar, Private Executive Assistant to HRH the Chairman.

The meeting began as the Ambassador thanked Prince Alwaleed for giving him the opportunity to meet with him. The two discussed economic and general issues related to their respective countries. The Ambassador also thanked the Prince for his cooperation to strengthen the bilateral economic relationship between the two countries. Moreover, the Ambassador invited Prince Alwaleed to visit his country. In response, Prince Alwaleed thanked the Ambassador for the invitation and promised to visit the country in the near future. 


In 2011, Prince Alwaleed and Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, Vice Chairwoman of Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation that is chaired by Prince Alwaleed were warmly received by HE John Atta-Mills, the President of the Republic of #Ghana at the Castle Osu. HRH and HH were accompanied by a delegation from KHC, Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation and the Private office.

The President and Prince Alwaleed discussed general economic and social issues in addition to focusing on humanitarian topic of discussions. Furthermore, the President commended Prince Alwaleed on his global investments and Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation on their efforts and support to Ghana. Moreover, during the trip, HRH was awarded the Key to the City of Accra by Mr. Alfred Vanderpuye, the Mayor of the City of Accra at the Greater Accra Metropolitan Accra Assembly. Furthermore, Prince Alwaleed toured and inspected his investments through KHC in Ghana and inspected his humanitarian projects through Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation.

Also in 2011, Prince Alwaleed in the presence of HE Mr. John Dramani Mahama, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, inaugurated the $120 million Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra. The event was attended by HH Princess Ameerah and Mr. Sarmad Zok, Chairman and CEO of Kingdom Hotel Investments (KHI) wholly owned by KHC. The hotel is considered a national and historic landmark and features 61 Executive Club rooms with their exclusive dedicated 24-hour club lounge, 15 junior suites and a palatial 350 square meter presidential suite, all overlooking the pool and gardens. KHC owns a 33.3% stake in Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts that manages the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel.

In the same year, Princess Ameerah visited Ghana and was accompanied by a delegation from Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation. During the Princess’s trip she visited the Alwaleed School and was given a tour of the school by HE Mrs. Juliana Azuma Mensah, Minister for Women and children’s Affairs. Furthermore, during the Princess’s trip she also visited the Noghuchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and was given a tour by Minister Mensah. Alwaleed Foundation had donated $600,000 Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research towards a clinical research facility for AIDS, malaria, and malnutrition.

In 2007, Alwaleed Foundation donated $250,000 to the Natural Disaster Relief Fund to provide relief from the destruction caused by the floods. In addition, Alwaleed Foundation had supported Ghana on a number of humanitarian projects in 2003that include: a donation of $100,000 to support the Fund for Early Child Center and $100,000 to support the Ghana Otumfuos Education Fund, $300,000 towards children’s preschool programs. Prince Alwaleed had also sponsored the pilgrimage of 150 Ghanaian citizens which was estimated to cost over one million Saudi Riyals.

In 2006, His Highness was awarded the highest honorary medal in the country, "Companion of the Order of the Volta" during an official ceremony of investiture attended by prominent state dignitaries. In addition, in 2004 HRH was conferred the Honorary Doctorate from the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, Ghana for His Highness’s global investments and humanitarian efforts. Also in 2003 the Prince was awarded, by the King of Ashanti tribe with the diploma, with the rank of "Citizen of Honor of the Kingdom of Ashanti".
